Tyrannosaurus rex Walks Again

VFX work on an episode of National Geographic Explorer called "T. Rex Walks Again"

My colleague Kent Stevens and I collaborated on an episode of National Geographic Explorer on how Tyrannosaurus rex walked and changed from infant to adult. We did VFX work for the episode demonstrating how the skeletal system changed as the animal grew, which was the basis for the robotic baby T. rex developed throughout the show.

The following is one of the clips we produced for the show, which shows how the skeletal system changed in proportion from infant to adult. The camera zooms out while the animal morphs to force the perspective of a constant overall size for the animal. This allows you to better see how the relative proportions of the bones change with age. For example, the legs become shorter and less suited to running fast.

The following is the full episode, which includes a number of additional our VFX clips.
